A celebration of Life for Cathy Farley, 79, of East Moline, IL, will be 4:00 PM Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Farley passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Cathy was born January 22, 1945, in Trenton, Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Thelma Fair Mahan.  She married Edmund "Pep" Sandoval January 21, 1966, in East Moline. She later married Melvin Farley September 12, 1988, in East Moline. He passed away April 18, 2018. Cathy retired from the Rock Island Arsenal.

Cathy was a strong and independent woman who loved spending time with her family and friends.  She cherished her time with everyone from:  holidays, birthdays, super bowl parties, sleep overs with the grandkids, or any excuse just to get together.  She was quick-witted and was always there to prove her point.  She also loved playing games with her family from euchre, trivia games, board games and even in her later years found the joy of online card games.  You could always find her at night getting her cookies and milk snack.  She was always there for all of us and was always one of the first to praise you, celebrate you, and be there when you needed.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Tiffany (Tim) Spurgetis, Colorado Springs, CO, Tori Petre, East Moline, and Jon Sandoval, Silvis; grandchildren, Nicole Leyendecker (Josh), Catherine Leyendecker (Tanner), Madison Alaniz, Shane Spurgetis (Isabel), Evan Spurgetis (Theresa), Julian Sandoval, and Molly Sandoval (Alijah); seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Michael Mahan, (East Moline) and cherished friend/family Barb Tharp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Terry Mahan; and daughter-in-law, Melissa Nelson.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at UIHC for taking such wonderful care of Cathy.
