Obituary

Rev. Cecil L. Murdock , 81, of Hampton, IL, passed away Friday, November 7, 2025, at his home, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 14th, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, IL. Interment will be at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline and additional visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, IL, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Stover, MO, or Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA.

Cecil was born November 20, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, to Cecil H. and Eunice (Hays) Murdock. He married Phyllis J. Howell on January 18, 1964, at the Watertown Baptist Church, East Moline.

He was employed with I.H. Navistar for 25 years. Following his retirement, he was vice president of Wayne Trucks/BMY for several years. He then served in the ministry as a Missouri Synod Lutheran pastor for twenty-five years.

He Loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, soul and mind. He loved his wife and family and spending as much time as possible with each one.  He loved woodworking and made some beautiful pieces of furniture for his family. He enjoyed playing golf when he had time.

Cecil is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Hampton; daughters, Melissa (Michael) Hahn, McDonald, TN, and Amanda Barbato, Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Cecil (Agatha) Barbato, Glen Ellyn, IL, Kayli (Tyler) Vanscourt, McDonald, TN, Brielle Hahn, McDonald, TN, and Samuel Barbato, Downers Grove; great-grandchildren, Brexton, Lucas, Kollyns and Vincent; many nieces, nephews, and their families; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Allan Bell; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law David and Lily Ann Howell.

He was preceded in death by two great—granddaughters, Adeline and Amelia Barbato; parents, Cecil and Eunice; sisters, Patsy (Ted) Swanson, Grace Scott, Estelee Adams and Camelia Dale and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dick and Ruth Howell.
