Funeral services for Charles James Breitenbach Jr., 77, Silvis, are 10 AM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 299 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Breitenbach died Saturday, May 31, 2008 at his home. A memorial fund has been established. Charlie was born June 12, 1930 in Des Moines, IA, the son of Charles James and Myrna (Proffitt) Breitenbach Sr. Charlie was a graduate of Moline High School. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany. He married Hildegard Bloch on August 13, 1954 in Munich Germany. Mr. Breitenbach was a milkman for Bakers Dairy, Moline and later drove trucks for (Knox) A&R Trucking. Charlie enjoyed rolle bolle, fishing, mushrooming and gardening. He was a past commander of the East Moline/Silvis AMVETS and was a member of the VFW. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Hilde, children and spouses; Sandy Davis, Des Moines, Charlotte and Paul Green, Indianapolis, IN, and Mark and Mary Lynn Breitenbach, Silvis, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and a sister and brother-in-law Naida and Kenny Tonn, East Moline. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Roger, Bob and Bill.
