Graveside services for Charles L. Johnson, 84, of Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Saturday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Friday (today) at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Mr. Johnson died Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Trinity Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Charlie was born April 10, 1926 in Perry, MO, the son of O'Lee and Viola James Johnson. He married Margaret Waggoner August 15, 1947 in Moline. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1978 after 25 years of service. He had been a member of the Moline American Legion Post 246. He enjoyed woodworking, fixing lawnmowers, and tinkering on anything mechanical. He had been a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years, Margaret Johnson of Moline, daughters and sons-in-law, Marlee and Rich Cox of Colona, IL, Debbie and Alan Ballard of Moline; grandchildren, Bruce (Kelly) Cox, Nichole (Steve) Light, Jason Ballard, Amanda Ballard; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Helen Sutphen of Villisca, IA.
