Charles R. Moody, 84, East Moline, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 11 AM Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday (today) at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a liturgy service will be read at 4 PM. Inurnment will be at 9 AM Friday at Rock Island National Cemetery. Anyone wishing to attend should meet at the funeral home by 8:30 AM on Friday. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy or Illini Hospital Auxillary. He was born November 27, 1926 in East Moline, the son of Charlie and Loretta Moody. He married Margaret Gumber on July 17, 1944. He graduated from UTHS in 1944 and enlisted in the US Navy, serving time in WWII and saw action in the South Pacific. Charles was employed for 30 years with the former AMETEK and retired as a supervisor in 1986 from John Deere Harvester, East Moline. Charles enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, and bowled in local leagues for many years. Charles was a Chicago Bear Fan and a Die Hard Cub fan since 1936 and still praying. He always had projects around his home and volunteered for the Quad City Marathon, Festival of Trees, Bix Music Festival, the John Deere Golf Tournament and at Illini Hospital. He was also very proud to have been able to go on an Honor Flight in October of 2009. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marge, a sister Betty Hardesty, his favorite niece and nephew; Kelly Holder and Dale Welch, as well as many other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and 8 sisters.
