Charles L. "Chuck or Cash" Gillies, 86, of East Moline, IL, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2016, at his home. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Private graveside services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Chuck was born November 7, 1930, in Crystal ND, the son of Percy Rosedale and Mary Margaret Kelty Gillies. He married Shirley Puppe June 30, 1951 in TN. Chuck was a veteran of the United States Army, where he served for three years. He was decorated with the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Paratrooper 11th Armored Division. As a paratrooper he made 13 jumps and later volunteered for the front lines. After an honorable discharge, Chuck moved to the Quad Cities in 1958 where he began his career at John Deere Harvester. He enjoyed retirement for nearly 29 years. For those that loved him and knew him well, he was known as the other Man in Black. He was loved by many, but most of all his family, who he often referred to with his pet names of Captain, Little Eva, and Mouse. He was known for his famous quick wit. Survivors include Shirley Gillies, East Moline; son, Charles "Chuck" (Chris) Gillies, East Moline; daughter, Sheila Milburn, Moline, IL; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one great grandson on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was the last sibling of thirteen children. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
