Funeral services for Charles E. "Chuck" Strooband, 89, of Moline, IL, will be 11:00AM Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00AM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Strooband died Monday, June 22, 2009 at home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Mr. Strooband was born August 31, 1919 in Moline, the son of Charles August and Lily (Park) Strooband. Chuck married Peggy McElroy in Baltimore, Maryland, on August 28,1948. He served in the US Army during WWII and Korea, retiring in 1963 as Lieutenant Colonel. He was a proud artilleryman and paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne, were he made two combat jumps during WWII. He was an avid golfer. Chuck enjoyed the kindness of Dennis Marker, Steve Uzelac, and many others on the golf course at Golfmohr. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Strooband of Moline; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and John Matthews of Pensacola, FL, Bess Strooband and Carl Jensen of Bel Air, MD, Barb and Terry Lynch of Moline; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marsha Strooband of Eugene, OR; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 2 on the way; former son-in-law, Jack Weime of Moline.
