Charles VandeWalle, 89, East Moline, died Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 3-6 PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church. Charlie was born October 22, 1921 in East Moline, the son of Aledor and Irene Hoste VandeWalle. He married Maria VanWasenhove in April of 1951. She died on October 28, 1984. Mr. VandeWalle retired from John Deere Mallable in 1978 after 46 years with the company. He had been a life member of St. Mary's Church, East Moline. He enjoyed going for walks, taking travel tours, and tinkering. He was a member of the John Deere retirees and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Survivors include his sister-in-law, Gwenith VandeWalle, nephews Chris VandeWalle and Randy VandeWalle, a niece Gail Hall, and their families, sisters Agnes VandeWalle, of Brussels, Belgium, Maria Madeline (Walter) Herrerick, of Thielt, Belgium and a brother Fernand (Cecelia) VandeWalle, Thielt, and numerous nieces and nephews in Belgium. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, sisters Elza VanBeselaere and Paula VandeWalle and a brother Marcel VandeWalle.
