Burial will be 9:00 am Tuesday at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors, anyone wishing to attend should be at the funeral home by 8:30 am. Mr. Motsinger died Monday, May 23, 2016, at his home. Chuck was born November 12, 1940 in Chicago, IL, the son of Charles and Ethel (Williams) Motsinger. He moved to Moline in 1957 to live with his Uncle and Aunt Ole and Ann Lake and their big family. He graduated from John Deere Jr. High School where he excelled in track, breaking the school record in the 110 low hurdles in 12.5 seconds. He attended Moline High School, leaving in 1959 to join the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1963, having served on the destroyers USS Lloyd Thomas, USS Samuel Roberts, and the USS Mitcher where he was ported at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Missile Crisis of 1961. He was a Boiler Tender 3rd Class. He married Joyce Pool November 18, 1959 in Moline. Upon returning home from the service he worked in various Quad City shops as a welder. He jumped jobs a lot, always looking for the better buck. He was self employed in the 1970's where he owned and operated the Colona Welding and Machine Shop for three years (BIG MISTAKE!) He then worked for Brown & Root Construction, Houston, TX, as a pipe welder. He also worked on the nuclear power plant in Cordova, IL, under construction as a pipe welder on a permit. He married Jeanette (Grant) Hanson, October 1, 1983 in Moline, IL. She passed away October 30, 2002 after 19 years of marriage. He enjoyed woodworking, welding and golfing. He had worked at John Deere Harvester and retired from the US Army Corp of Engineers in 2001, where he had worked as a maintenance welder and a structural welder. He just plain retired. Simple as that. He enjoyed visiting friends and going out for breakfast with his ex co-worker, Otis Capps. He had a few good close friends in his life, namely, Duane Vantieghem, who preceded him in death; Jeff Wamsley, who stood by him in good times and in bad; and Lou "Bud" Moneymaker, whom he barhopped with before and after retirement until he passed away. What a riot those two had together, can't put it in words. He loved to spend time with his daughter and grandson, Aaron, and watching his career grow. Survivors include his daughter, Robin Motsinger of East Moline, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Brenda Motsinger, Colona, IL; stepdaughter, Kim Hanson, Denver, CO; stepson and daughter-in-law, Sean and Michelle Hanson, Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Aaron (Robyn), Michael and Matthew Motsinger; great grandchildren, Vyncent Joel and Bella Michelle Motsinger; "adopted sisters and brothers", Ellen (Frank) Sherman, Naperville, IL, Norma Langlois, Las Vegas, NV; Jack Karr, Iroquois, IL; Mary Anne (Jack) Schmidt, Bettendorf, IA; LaVeta (Harry) Hodgerson, Moline, IL; Margaret Hartley, Galesburg, IL; Lillian (Elmer) Dyer, Silvis, IL: Nancy (Joe) Johnson, Milan, IL; James Lake, Davenport, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents; step parents, Bill and Kate Liskas; Aunt and Uncle Ann and Ole Lake; infant sister, Elizabeth; sister, Mary Louise; brother, Charles Lake; and "adopted family", Jim Hartley and Jean Karr. Memorials may be made to the family.
