Funeral services for Chester R. "Chet" Powell, 83, of Hampton, IL, will be 11:00AM Saturday at Wildwood Baptist Church, 18717 Hubbard Rd, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Graveside services will be 2:30PM Saturday in Grandview Cemetery, Grandview, IA. Mr. Powell died Wednesday June 5, 2013 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. Chet was born May 30, 1930 in DesMoines County, IA, the son of Harry and Rosa Ann Fern Moyer. He served in the US Navy from June 17, 1947 - June 19, 1950. He married Barbara Jean Miller. He later married LaVonee Bernice Thornton April 9, 1966 in Davenport, IA. He retired from the John Deere Foundry, East Moline, in 1985, after 27 years of service. He enjoyed All-Star Wresting and Western music. A fitting epitaph for Chet is "Trust and Obey." Survivors include his wife, LaVonee Powell of Hampton; daughters, Mikki Miller, Middletown, IA, and Vikki Smith, Iowa City, IA; son, Rikki (Pam) Powell, Burlington, IA; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise Koval, Burlington, Marjorie Williams, Sevierville, TN, Nancy (Glen) Blaine Burlington, and Linda Jenkins, West Point, IA; brother, Jimmy Powell, Davenport. He is preceded in death by his parents, sons, Nikki and Billy Clay Powell, sisters, Lillian Liblie, Virginia Thompson, brothers, James, Johnny, and Harold Powell.
