Funeral services for Chester C Zalewski,91, East Moline, are 11 AM Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quad City Honor Flight. Chester was born April 3, 1919 in Poland, to Walenty and Josephine Zalewski. He came to the USA at the age of 7 and later became a naturalized citizen. Married to Mildred Loe on January 12, 1944 at Bowling Field Chapel, Washington DC. They met in the Arlington National Cemetery while Sgt. Zalewski was stationed there while serving the the Army Air Force. He was later stationed in Guam. Mildred was working for the War Department. Chester took great pride in his garden, helping to feed the neighborhood, and he won numerous awards for his prize Dalia's. Chester was active for 25 years with the Illowa Council of Boy Scouts, serving as a troop leader at Wells School and as a district commissioner. He was also a member of the Rock Island Senior Council, having served as president and vice president. A member of the UAW local 1304 and served as president of the East Moline Chapter of AARP. He also served on the East Moline City Advisory Council and a member of the HUD advisory Board. Chester was a charter member of Christ the King Church, Moline, where he took great pride in tending all the flowers on the church grounds. He worked for 32 years at International Harvester Works, East Moline, retiring in 1980. Chester was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Survivors include his children and spouses; Keith and Karen Zalewski, Roseville, Minnesota, Joann and Robert Klinkowski, Port Byron, IL, grandsons Kenneth Zalewski, Kurtis and Kimberly Zalewski; great grandchildren; Kevin, Laura, and Brian, a sister Virginia Laha and a brother and his wife Daniel and Barbara. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mildred, his sister Stella Myszkowski, and her husband Stanley, and a brother in law Bob Laha.
