Obituary

Funeral services for Christ T. Panousis, 76, of East Moline, IL, will be 10:00AM Thursday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00PM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at 7:30PM. Mr. Panousis died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at University Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, with his beloved family by his side. Christ was born July 14, 1933 in Clinton, IA, the son of Tony and Maria (Antoniou) Panousis. He married Marena Jannes February 12, 1961 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, where he was stationed in Germany. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa, where he received his degrees in Engineering, Business, Law, and an Honorary Juris Doctor of Law. He had been a member of the Illinois and Iowa Bar Association. He had been a partner of the Law Firm - Schoede, Bell, Scott, and Panousis, Rock Island, IL, for over 40 years. He then continued his private practice until his death. He had been an Assistant to the Attorney General in the State of Illinois. He had been appointed to the Republican National Committee, where he received many honors from President George W. Bush. He was an Honorary Colonel of the State of Kentucky. He had been a faithful member of Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Short Hills Country Club, and a devoted SOMA golf member. Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Marena Panousis of East Moline; daughters and sons-in-law, Sperry and Kostas Rikos of Washington, DC, Maria and John Fotos of Lake Zurich, IL; grandchildren, Sophia-Christina Rikos, Marianna Fotos and George Fotos; sister, Kulla Anggeloplos of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Constance Christine. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline or Medical Arts Oncology 600 John Deere Road Moline, IL.
