Obituary

Christopher Douglas Taylor, 49, Brea, CA, passed away after a brief illness on November 11, 2021 at Keck Medical Center, USC, Los Angeles, CA with his family by his side.

Chris was born February 16, 1972 to Virginia (Zmuda) Taylor and Melvin Taylor in Portsmouth, VA. He spent his childhood in East Moline and Moline, Illinois. A 1990 graduate of Alleman High School, Rock Island, Illinois, Chris was very active in Civil Air Patrol, many clubs and sports, a lifeguard at the YMCA, and a private pilot. One of his greatest accomplishments was receiving the highest award in Civil Air Patrol, the General Carl A. Spaatz Award.

After high school, Chris attended college at Iowa State University where he earned his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a member of the Air Force ROTC and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. It was at ISU where he met his college sweetheart, Jessica (Porter) Taylor. After graduating in 1995, he was stationed at Los Angeles Air Force Base. Chris and Jessica were wed in 1997 and were blessed with two children Jack and Ellie Taylor. They settled in Brea, California in 2000 and remain there today. After an honorable discharge from the Air Force, Chris remained in the AF Reserves for the next few years and left with the rank of Captain. He has since worked at AT&T in various positions for the last 21 years. Chris loved to volunteer for his kids and the passions in his life. He supported and served in various capacities with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Sonora High School Athletics, youth sports, and dance, numerous school functions, and as an aeronautics instructor with Civil Air Patrol in Torrance and Fullerton.

Chris was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Taylor and his in-laws Michael Porter and Susan (Sellers) Porter. He is survived by his wife Jessica, children Jack and Ellie, mother Virginia, brother Craig (Laura) Taylor, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and co-workers.

Chris was a quiet and gentle soul just like his dad. He hands down had the best smile on the planet. He was fiercely loyal and selflessly devoted to his family, friends, and co-workers. In every aspect of his life, he always led by example. He showed his family what an exceptional husband and dad looks like. He is so proud of his kids and knows they will become remarkable adults. Chris was simply "one of the good ones." He left this world too soon and will be missed beyond measure, but we all know we have our forever guardian angel and we take comfort in knowing that he is in heaven with his dad and Friley our family dog of 16 years.

A Celebration of Chris' life will take place at 1:00PM Tuesday December 28th, 2021 at Modern Woodman Park, Davenport, IA. There will also be an offertory mass in remembrance of Chris, and his dad, Mel at St. John's Catholic Church, Rapids City, on December 29th, 2021 at 12:00PM.
