Obituary

Funeral services for Clarence H. "Jack" Foster, 85, of East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Mr. Foster died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Memorial may be made to the First Baptist Church, Moline. Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline is handling arrangements. Mr. Foster was born December 23, 1921 in Hiteman, Iowa to Clarence P. and Mary E. (Stevenson) Foster. He grew up and went to school in Newton, Iowa. After school he served two six-month terms in the Civilian Conservation Corp from June 1, 1940 to June 30, 1941. He married Doris E. Saar on October 18, 1941 in Clarion. She died June 19, 1966. He then married Dorothy V. (Kennedy) Doty on February 11, 1967 in Moline, Illinois. He served two years active service in the Army during World War II with the 90th Infantry "Tough Ombres" Division under General George S. Patton 3rd Army Command. He spent four months as a Prisoner of War in Germany. He served eighteen years in the Active Army Reserves and retired in October, 1964, to the Retired Army Reserves as a First Sergeant with numerous medals including The Bronze Star, The European Theater with 2 battle Stars, The Prisoner of War Medal, The Victory Medal, The Armed Forces Reserve Medal, The Presidential Unit Citation, The Combat Infantry Badge and The Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of Veterans of War Post 2153 in Moline. He retired December 31, 1978 as an inspector for the John Deere Parts Distribution Center in Milan, Illinois with thirty seven and one half years of seniority of which thirty two years were spent at The Deere Spreader Works in East Moline as a precision and hand tool grinder. He was a member of UAW Local #79 Retirees. He served as an usher and on the Board of Trustees for several terms each at the First Baptist Church in Moline where he was a member since 1949. Survivors include: his wife of 40 years, Dorothy Foster of East Moline, IL; stepsons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Mardell Doty of Bartlett, IL, Rev. Daniel and Beverly Doty of Maquon, IL, Rodger and Judy Doty of Sonoma, CA; 6 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; his niece, Laurie Ehlers of Moline, IL. He is preceded death by his parents, first wife, a sister, and 3 brothers. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
