Cleo M. Chickris died October 4, 2009, at Amber Ridge Assisted Living in Moline, Illinois. Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., East Moline, with a prayer services at 6 PM. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline Cleo (Petersen) Chickris was born October 25, 1921, in Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Louie and Ruby (Norton) Petersen. She married George Chickris on January 20, 1943, in East Moline, Illinois. They had one son, Greg G. Chickris, an attorney in East Moline, Illinois. Mrs. Chickris was a business woman in Moline and East Moline, Illinois, for over three decades. She and her husband owned a grocery store in Fruitland Addition, Moline, and she was part-owner and manager of Feminique Apparel in the Ridgewood Shopping Center, East Moline, retiring in 1984. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jan Chickris of East Moline, Illinois, and two grandchildren, Nicole M. Chickris, East Moline, and Eric J. Chickris of Omaha, Nebraska. She is preceded in death by her husband George who died on January 30, 1998. The family would like to thank the rehabilitation department at Trinity West in Rock Island, Illinois, where Mrs. Chickris received life saving services from her stroke in 2003 and all the employees, personnel at Illini Restorative Care Center where Ms. Chickris stayed for three years. A special thanks to the Director, nurses, nurses aides and all employees and personnel at Amber Ridge Assisted Living who went above and beyond the call of duty to make Cleo extremely comfortable in her last days.
