Obituary

Craig L. Manwaring, 64, Hampton, formerly of East Moline, died Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. A memorial service will be held at 10 AM Saturday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. The family invites friends and family to a gathering from 4-8PM Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or to help establish a scholarship in Craig's name at United Township High School. Craig was born February 20, 1949 in Highland, IL, the son of Jerry and Opal (Monken) Manwaring. He graduated from Highland High School, received his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin and master's degree from Western Illinois University. He married Maureen Harmon on February 14, 1970 in Madison, WI and together they had three daughters. He taught Social Studies at United Township High School, retiring in 2005. Mr. Manwaring enjoyed hunting, fishing, working crossword puzzles and was a master of trivia. He loved gardening and working outdoors. He held a very high regard for the land and was dedicated to preserving its natural resources. Throughout his life, Craig received many awards for his excellence in sports, from his playing years in high school to coaching at UTHS. He scored 2045 points his senior year at Highland High School and had the most wins of any baseball coach at UTHS. He had been inducted into two halls of fame for his basketball accomplishments. Craig was a life long teacher and learner. He was loyal, honest, candid, hardworking, playful, witty and was comfortable in his own skin. Survivors include his wife, Maureen, daughters (spouses), Melissa Manwaring (R. Bryan Jadot), Wellesley, MA, Erin (Scott) Burmahl, LeClaire, IA, and Anna (Kevin) Hanrahan, Heyworth, IL. Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Liam, Kyle, Sebastian Craig, Ava, Ellie and Jack, his mother, Opal Manwaring, St. Morgan, IL, and a sister, Laurie Manwaring-Jatcko (John Jatcko), Edwardsville, IL.
