Obituary

Funeral services for Dale M. Roberts, 85, East Moline, are 11 AM Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at First Baptist Church, East Moline. Burial is in Greenveiw Memorial Gardens, East Moline, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Dale died Friday, February 18, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church. Dale was born September 3, 1925 in Emmetsburg, IA, the son of Don and Edna (Randall) Roberts. He married Marie Theesfeld in June of 1947. He later married Jeanette Johnston on March 30, 1969 in Des Moines, IA. He served on the USS McGowan in the US Navy during WWII. Dale was an engineer for the Rock Island Lines until 1980 and then for the Chicago North-Western, retiring in 1986. He was a devoted member of his church, having served as a trustee and many years on the board. He was a member of the East Moline American Legion, enjoyed several McGowan Navy reunions and recently took an Honor Flight. Dale enjoyed fishing, building models, and in later years made miniature rocking chairs and wooden birds. Survivors include his wife, Jeanette, children and spouses; Linda Roberts, East Moline, Dennis and Karen Roberts, East Moline, Christine and Charles Wangelin, Hampton, Anthony Johnston, Davenport, and Michael Roberts, Moline, thirteen grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law; Don and JoAnn Roberts, Erie, and Glen and Katharine Roberts, Estherville, IA, and a sister-in-law Margaret Roberts, Estherville. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leonard and Arlo and a daughter-in-law Lori Housby-Roberts.
