Obituary

Daniel Frank Gunn, 77, Rock Island, died Thursday, July 10, 2025, at his home. Dan's wishes were to have no formal services. His body will be cremated, and his remains will be spread in the Atlantic Ocean near his late wife's remains during a private committal at Outer Banks, North Carolina. Memorials may be made to Moline High School Boosters Club, as he enjoyed many hours watching his children and grandchildren in various sports for several decades.  A Celebration of Life event will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 12 – 3 p.m. at the East End Boulders Club located at 3712 4th Avenue, Moline, Illinois.

Dan was born November 15, 1947, in Scotland, South Dakota, the son of Finley and La Verna (Baltzer) Gunn. He married Cynthia Zastrow in November 1966, and they shared one son. He later married Barbara (Weime) Gunn on December 8, 1972, in Milan, Illinois. With that marriage, Dan was immediately blessed with four children of Barb's that he continued to raise as his own until his passing. Dan and Barb completed their family with two additional children over the next two years.

Dan was an athlete in his youth and loved watching all sports. He was an active golfer, bowler and pool player most of his adult life, and when his hands would no longer allow participation, he turned to watching his grandchildren in a variety of sporting events. Dan and Barb were married for 33 years, and he resided in their shared home for nearly 50 years.

Survivors include his children (spouses); Rodney (Brandy Caporaso) Merys, Mt. Shasta, California, Michael (Mary) Myers, Moline, Trae (Shae) Myers, Moline, Mindy (Brad) Hood, Rock Island, Tacey (Larry) Forlano, Clearwater, Florida, Ryan (Sara) Gunn, Milan and Regan (Mitch) Kunzman, Sherrard, seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, his sister, Zoe (Michael) Seed, Bourbonnais, Illinois, and nieces and nephews. Dan also had a special relationship with his children's former spouses Jill Six, Daniel VanHoe, Rick Keemle and Tiffany Gunn.

He is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Cynthia, second wife, Barbara, his brother, Mark Gunn, close friend and brother-in-law, Jack Weime.
