Funeral services for Daniel J. Naert, 91, East Moline, IL, will be 11:00 am Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 pm Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm. Mr. Naert died Saturday, March 18, 2017 at his home at Park Vista. Dan was born on July 12, 1925 in East Moline, the son of Eugene and Mary Anna (Neels) Naert. He married Anna Mae Hollembaek on August 25, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. She died August 14, 1998. He graduated from St. Anne School in 1939, United Township High School in 1943, and Bradley University with a B.S. in 1949, and M.S. in 1952. He retired from Rock Island Arsenal in 1987, after 34 years of service. He also taught for seven years in the following schools: Alleman High School, where he was a member of the first faculty in 1949, United Township High School, Hampton Elementary School, where he served as principal/superintendent, and Ajo High School, Ajo, AZ. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII as a B-17 tail gunner from 1943-45. Dan was a lifetime member of St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Survivors include his children, Roch A. (Julie) Naert, Urbandale, IA, Mary Ann Kuehnel, Rock Island, and Dr. John J.(Kim) Naert, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Amanda (Dan) Miller, Raechel Naert, Roch (Kelsie) Naert, Maria (Tom) Hutchinson, Tom (Katie) Naert, David Naert, Michael Naert, James Naert, and Beth Kuehnel; great grandchildren, Brianna, Andrew, Matthew, and Quinn; God granddaughter, Emily. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Naert, his parents, siblings, Elizabeth DeClercq, Frances Long, Charles Naert, Helen Kerschieter, Ann Marie Naert, and son-in-law, Jim Kuehnel.
