Dave Abbott, 63, of East Moline, IL, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at St. Francis OSF Medical Center, Peoria, IL, after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline. Burial will be in Hampton Township Cemetery, Hampton, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM Friday and Saturday at 10:00 AM with funeral following at 11:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the United Way. Dave was born in Moline and grew up in Silvis and East Moline, graduating from United Township in 1964. Dave served in the U. S. Navy. Upon his return to the Quad Cities he worked at the Rock Island Lines Railroad which started a lifelong love of trains. In 1966 Dave married Judie. They were fortunate during their time together to share a love of and ability to travel widely and make friends in many places. In 2005 Dave retired from the LaFarge Corporation after 30 years of various positions and locations in logistical management. He started Abbott & Associates, a material and transportation brokerage firm. Active in politics, Dave served as an Alderman for the city of East Moline for 8 years. He was involved various political and civic organizations. He enjoyed, in his leisure time, reading, fishing and golfing. Dave was a champion of the "little guy" and was generous to a fault. Those that knew him were blessed to know a truly fine person. Dave is survived by his widow, Judie; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Karrie; grandchildren Max and Addison; parents, Chuck and Arlene of East Moline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Tina, Don and Cory, Bob and Margaret, Dan and Neva; sister-in-law, Jayne Burns and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Sandy Burns. He measured wealth not in material belongings but in the love and time spent with family and friends. Dave considered his greatest blessing to be his family. They were his greatest gift.
