Obituary

Funeral services for David P. Block, 65, of Rock Island, IL, will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the 15th Ave Christian Church, Rock Island, IL. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00-700PM Monday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline IL. Mr. Block died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Trinity Rock Island, after a short battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Dave was born March 21, 1946 in Rock Island, the son of Conrad S. and Dalton Irene Larkin Block. He married Helen Brancaleone July 27, 1968 in Istanbul, Turkey. She died January 15, 1994. He later married Diane Morgan June 29, 1996. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He later joined the National Guard to further serve his country. He had worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for the Department of the Army, retiring in 1997. After retiring from the Arsenal, Dave went and "played" at Mills Chevrolet, Moline. He had been an Elder at 15th Ave Christian Church, where he especially enjoyed helping with the Children's Service. He had been an active volunteer. He volunteered for MDA for 25 years, had played Santa, helped at the Festival of Trees, and would drive VA patients to Iowa City for treatment. Over the years, he had donated 11.5 gallons of blood to the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. He had been a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, and was a friend to everyone he met. Dave can best be described as loving God, family, our nation, Chevrolet, life and food. Survivors include his daughter, Gina (David) Bullock of Aurora, IL; son Conrad Block (Amanda Peterlin) of Moline; grandchildren, Kayla and Katy Moulton, Zenniphyr and Orion Bullock; sisters, Phebe (Jim) Aubry of FL, Bridget Wilson, Moline; brothers, Conrad (Cheryl) Block of Ohio, Phillip (Cindy) Block of Woodridge, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen, infant brothers, John Conrad and Gregory Block, brother, Michael Block. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com
