David C. Copeland, 77, East Moline, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services are 11 AM Thursday at First Christian Church, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to First Christian Church or to the Rock Island County Fair Association. Dave was born on July 22, 1936 in Davenport, IA, the son of Rush and Vera Faye (Brown) Copeland. He graduated from United Township High School in 1954 and continued his education at Brown's Institute of the Air, Minneapolis, MN. He was working as a radio announcer when he met Sara "Ruth" Hoffpauir, and they were married on February 8, 1957 in Laurel, Mississippi. Dave worked as an insurance broker at Ben Farrar and Co., Rock Island, retiring in 2004. Mr. Copeland had a zest for life and volunteered his talents to many organizations including, 50 years with the Rock Island County Fair, sitting on the board of directors at Union Federal Savings and Loan, being a flagman at the QC Raceway and announcing rodeos. After retirement he became active helping people through community services programs. He and his wife loved to travel and following their grandchildren's many extra curricular activities. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth, children (spouses) Joseph (Jane) Copeland, East Moline, Linda (Tony) Kozelichki, Alexis, IL, James (Maria) Copeland, Bettendorf, and Jack (Jane) Copeland, Moline, grandchildren, Sara (Jeff) Cutkomp, Anna Copeland, Mary Copeland, Caiti Kozelichki, Samantha Copeland, Chelsea Manning, Nick Browne and Jordan Copeland, great grandchildren, Callie and Aria, brother, Warren (Clara) Copeland, Springfield, OH, and sister-in-law Lydia Copeland of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Delpha, brother Bob, and grandson Anton Kozelichki.
