Obituary

David Washburn, 71, of Moline, IL, passed away, Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at UnityPoint Health Trinity, Rock Island, IL. In accordance to his wishes, there will be no services. But will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Dave was born April 16, 1952, in Rock Island, the son of Glen and Alice Hall Washburn. He married Debra "Debbie" (Walker) Harris October 18, 1980, in Rock Island.

Whether you knew him as Dave, Washy, Number 57P, or Hollywood is dependent on which decade you knew him from. Dave inherited his love of motorcycles from his parents who took him on his first ride at 2 years old. He grew up to be very talented in building, customizing, painting motorcycles. He even collaborated with his friend, George Sedlack, on one of Evel Knievel's bikes! He also owned his own shop, Washburn Cycle in Moline. During that time he also raced top fuel drag bikes at Cordova Speedway and competed in the AMA Professional Flat-track Series as Number 57P.

Washy was also vice president of the Quad Cities Cruisers for about 5 years and owned and showed several different Hot Rods during that time.

Then came the band years. Man, Hollywood could really rock that Saxaphone! Dave played in a couple of bands The Royal Rockers, and Fran and the Country Gentlemen. He had the opportunity to play with some legends like K C and the Sunshine Band , Michael Twitty, The Coasters, just to name a few.

Next Came the Bar years. Dave Owned the bar Hollywood Dave's in East Moline for about 10 years. Great times there!

For the last 14 years Hollywood's been playing in his own band along with Shane Landstrom and a host of other members. They played classic rock ranging from the 70's – 90's. He sang some vocals along with playing that awesome Sax!

In 2018 Machine Gun Willie Band was contacted to do an original soundtrack for a documentary about 3 motorcycle racers in the 1950's called " The Indian Wrecking Crew" produced by John Holman and narrated by Jay Leno.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie; son Bobby Harris, Moline, IL; grandson Robby Harris, Moline; niece, Jennifer (Bryce) Lindsey, Davenport, IA; and nephew, Cris (Jessica) Washburn, Rock Island; many cousins, aunts and uncles; and his dog Buster

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene Washburn and several furbabies.
