Deborah Sue Vretis, 73, of Erie, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026, at Genesis East Hospital, Davenport.

Funeral service will be 10:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2026, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with a Trisagion (prayer) service at 6:30 pm. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Action Research and Education Foundation.

Debbie was born on December 28, 1952, in Davenport, the daughter of Theodore and Bernice (Genz) Yeoman. She married Frank Vretis, had four children together, and later separated. She stayed home to take care of her children during their school years. Once they were older she went back to school and got her bachelor’s degree in education from Western Illinois University. She worked as an aide until her retirement. While raising her children, Debbie devoted much of her life to her family and was deeply involved in her sons’ activities and in her church community. She coached soccer, served as a Cub Scout den leader, taught Sunday school, and was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. These were just a few of the many ways Debbie generously gave her time and energy to her children, her church, and those around her. Debbie had a strong passion for learning, a deep love for the outdoors, and she cherished the simple pleasure of country life. She enjoyed caring for her cats, farming and gardening, fishing, reading a good book, and listening to music.

Debbie is survived by her sons, Nicholas Vretis, East Moline and Thomas (Ashley Morgan) Vretis, Rock Island; grandchildren, Riley, Sophia, D’Antre, Gabriel, Maclin, Oliver, Ezra, and Arlo; siblings, Judith Yeoman, Vicki Shaffer, Amy Shelton, and Daniel Yeoman; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, James W. Vretis and infant son, Anthony F. Vretis; and niece, Angela Allen.
