Obituary

Delbert A. Honert, 79, of East Moline, IL, died Sunday, January 1, 2011 at Illini Hospital, Silvis, IL. Private interment services will be held at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island. Delbert was born on March 31, 1932, in Alger, MI, the son of Andrew and Mildred Seder Honert. He married Barbara Ann Apel on December 28, 1956, in Detroit, MI. He was a student at the Mt. Clemens Michigan schools, but later entered the U.S. Navy. He was stationed at Key West, Florida, in 1953 and was discharged in 1956. He worked for Michigan Tool, Detroit, Mi, in the design department. He was also a salesman for Jacobsen & Daw, in Moline, IL, but after several years, he founded Del-Co-West, Inc., in Milan, IL, where he manufactured machine parts. He retired from his company, in 1987. He was an avid sportsman, member of the Bi-States Sportsmen's Association, Colona, IL, and at one time was the captain of his own charter boat on Lake St. Clair, Michigan. He was a loyal Cubs fan, and spent much of his time watching games with his wife. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Honert, East Moline; sons, Tim (Sally) Honert, East Moline, Jeff (Kim) Honert, Arvada, CO; daughter, Dee Honert, Greensburg, IN; 7 grandchildren, Alyssa, Zach (Lindsey), Audrey, Eric, Celeste, Julia and Joseph; 1 great grandson, Kelly, sister; Doris Breitkreuz, and brother; Daniel Honert. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother. Many thanks to the doctors, nursing staff, and hospice staff for their care and support during his stay at Illini Hospital.
