Funeral services for Dinny Fotinakes, 93, of Geneseo, IL, will be 10:00AM Monday at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline, IL. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL. Visitation will be 2:00-5:00 PM Sunday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a Trisagion (Prayer) Service will be held at 4:30. Mr. Fotinakes died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at Hammond Henry Long Care Unit, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Mr. Fotinakes was born September 14, 1917 in East Moline, the son of Demitris and Eugenia Zeros Fotinakes. He married Roberta G. Powell October 14, 1943 in Kansas City, MO. She died July 31, 2005. He served in the US Air Force during WWII and the Korean Conflict, retiring in 1965. He had been a highly decorated pilot, flying B17's, B29's, and B52's. After retirement from the US Air Force, he worked as a Federal Passport Agent, where he retired in December of 1979. Survivors include his daughter, Eugenia (Richard) Leonhardt of Geneseo; son Randall (Sherry) Fotinakes of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Ashlee and Jonathan Fotinakes; great-granddaughter, Karlyn; sister, Katherine Nelson of Chetek, WI; brother, Chris (Jennie) Fotinakes of Huntington Park, CA; nieces and nephews.
