Dolores Mae Bell, 93, of East Moline, IL, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Shepherd Hospice in Southaven, MS, surrounded by family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Moline. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum of St. Mary’s Cemetery in East Moline. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6, at Van Hoe Funeral Home in East Moline, with a rosary recited at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or to the ARC of the Quad Cities.
Dolores was born on December 10, 1932, in East Moline, the beloved daughter of Raymond H. and Adeline (Leenknecht) Schatteman. She was raised on her family’s farm, Schatteman’s Dairy Farm, where she developed a deep love for hard work, the outdoors, and the simple beauty of nature that stayed with her throughout her life. She graduated from United Township High School in 1950.
On September 10, 1955, she married the love of her life, John R. “Jack” Bell, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in East Moline. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and devotion until his passing on November 1, 2018.
Dolores worked for 23 years at John Deere Harvester Works, a cornerstone of the community, retiring in 1986. She was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the John Deere Harvester Lady Retirees.
She found joy in the quiet, meaningful moments of life—especially outdoors. She loved birdwatching from the swing in her backyard, tending to her beautiful flower gardens, and simply being surrounded by nature. She also enjoyed photography, puzzles, traveling, and time spent with her card club.
Dolores had a special gift for making a house feel like home. She loved hosting family gatherings, especially at Christmas and holidays, where her kitchen was always full and her table always open. She was known for her homemade baked goods—coffee cake, banana bread, fudge brownies, and cookies—made with care and shared with love. Family traditions were dear to her, including trips to Lagomarcino’s for ice cream sundaes, a simple joy that became a lasting memory for those she loved.
A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Dolores was a true prayer warrior. She carried others in her prayers constantly and lived her life with compassion, always thinking of others before herself. Her strength, kindness, and gentle spirit touched everyone who knew her.
Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her life and will forever carry her love in their hearts.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne (Steve) Papageorgiou of Sebring, FL, and Carolee (Tim) Ohrberg of Southaven, MS; her cherished grandchildren, Trevor (Caroline) Rodrigues, Jason Rodrigues, and Faith Ohrberg; her sister, Carol Klauer of Taylor Ridge, IL; her sister-in-law, Johanna Schatteman of East Moline; and many dear nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack; her parents, Raymond and Adeline; her sisters, Rose Poelvoorde Van De Wiele and Rita Jean Schatteman; her brother, Raymond J. Schatteman; and her brothers-in-law, Andrew Poelvoorde, Donald Van De Wiele, and Bernard Klauer.
Dolores leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and quiet strength that will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
