Graveside services for Dolores G. Carney, 86, of Rock Island, IL will be 10:30 am Wednesday at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Rock Island. Visitation will be 9-10 am Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd, East Moline. Mrs. Carney died Sunday, December 25, 2016, at Trinity Rock Island. Dolores Altman was born March 26, 1930, in Moline, IL, the daughter of Louis and Mabel Simpson Altman. She married Elmer "Dean" Carney December 3, 1949 at St. Joseph's Rock Island. He died January 22, 2014. Dolores belonged to St. Pius X, Rock Island, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. She was a union musician, she played the piano, bass, and was lead singer. She and her husband Dean (who played the trumpet) played in various bands over the years. Dolores had a love of Alaska after Dean was drafted and stationed at Fort Richardson, AK. They fell in love with the state and always considered it their second home. She was very proud of her son, Jeff who worked in the film industry. She had a strong love for her family who meant everything to her including her 3 cats. No stray animal went unfed in her yard. She passed on Christmas day, a favorite holiday for her. She would always make not only Christmas but any day seem special through a kind gesture, warm smile, or a kiss/hug for her family. She always knew the right thing to say and had the time to listen. A wonderful mother to Jeff and an amazing wife to Dean. She will be missed and loved always.... Survivors include her son, Jeff Carney, Rock Island; sister-in-law, Virginia Altman, Moline, IL; nieces and nephews, including Craig Altman; other relation, Dennis (Judy) Carney, Davenport, IA; and Marilyn Ryan, Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Roger Altman. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan, IL.
