Donald J. Davis, 82, East Moline, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10:30 AM Saturday, May 27, 2017 at St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 3-7 PM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to the 180 Zone of Davenport or to St. John's Lutheran Church, where Don was a member. Don was born on January 16, 1935 in Muscatine, IA, the son of William H. and Elva (Dixon) Davis. He married Nancy Peters on April 3, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church. He graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island, and received his Master's Degree from the University of Iowa. He taught Social Studies at Riverdale High School in Port Byron for 3 years before teaching Social Studies at UTHS for 31 years. Don coached football, basketball, and baseball at UT and coached football, basketball and track at Riverdale. Don retired from UTHS in 1991. Don also coached football at Augustana College for 22 years retiring in 2002. Don was inducted into the United Township High School Hall of Fame in 2007. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Nancy, children, Susan (Henry) Bowman, Moline and John (Kathy) Davis, Bartlett, IL, grandchildren, Thomas (Tracy) Bowman and Samantha Davis, great granddaughter, Grace, brothers Clifford (Gloria) Davis and Wayne Davis, sister-in-law June Davis and special family, Michael McDaniel and William Graham and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 brothers and sisters. Don's family would like to thank Genesis Illini, Unity Point Trinity Rock Island, Illini Restorative Care, as well as all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff who provided such excellent care to Don.
