Obituary

Donald A. Deopere, 92, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at Silver Cross at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Monsignor Dale Wellman will be officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 pm Tuesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Entombment will follow the funeral at St. Mary's Mausoleum in East Moline. Don was born in East Moline, Illinois on May 3, 1925, the son of Hector and Stephanie Deopere. He graduated from UTHS in East Moline in 1943. Don was married to his high school sweet heart, Helen, on January 19, 1946. They recently celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary! In a 1944 love note, Don wrote to Helen, "Gee, it's like Heaven sitting here next to you." Don worked as a Camera Operator in Graphic Arts for Tri City Blue Print Company for 43 years. Don enjoyed bowling, rolle bolle and collector cars. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Don is survived by his spouse, a son (and spouse), Dr. David (Rebecca) Deopere, Rock Island, Illinois; grandchildren, Scott (Tiffiney) Deopere, Bardstown, Kentucky and Beth (German) Rossell, Yuma, Arizona; great grandchildren, Matti, Will & Catherine, Bardstown, Kentucky and Luca, Yuma, Arizona. Don was preceded in death by his parents, 6 half-brothers and 4 half-sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Robert Young Center in Moline, Illinois or Friendship Manor in Rock Island, Illinois. The family of Donald Deopere wishes to specifically thank Dr. Steve Ray of Rock Island for his years of tender and excellent care. In addition, the family wishes to thank the care provided by the Memory Care Unit and Silver Cross at Friendship Manor for their gentle and outstanding care of Don as well as Trinity Hospice for the brief but compassionate care provided to Don. The family would also like to thank Ms. Carol Schaefer for her care and assistance to both Don and Helen during this trying period.
