Donald W. Harmening, 82, of East Moline, IL, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at home, surrounded by his family. Per his wishes cremation rites will be accorded. Funeral services are 11:00 am Saturday at Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 pm Friday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, IL. Don was born at home January 16th, 1934 to Henry "Red" and Dorothy L. Harsch Harmening, in East Moline. Don attended United Township High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1954-57 where he was stationed in Japan and Korea. He and his family owned and operated Red's Garage, East Moline, from 1937 until Don retired in 2015. He married Dorothy J. Sullivan in Rock Island on January 18th, 1958. He was a member of the former Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline, IL then became a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, IL. He was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 9-1. Donald enjoyed cars, scuba diving, traveling, camping and especially boating. His taco parties were enjoyed by many. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Dorothy; children and spouses Diane "Rusty" Harmening, Darrell (Marilee) Harmening, Dana (Thomas) Beachler, Daniel "Buck" (Shannon) Harmening; eight grandchildren; Anna and Regina Harmening; Ian (Brooke) Speckman, Rachael Speckman, Jaimie Drobushevich, Jake Beachler; Alicia and Amanda Harmening; four great-grandchildren, Tucker, Gunner, Gwen "Pi", and Jalen. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; sister, Beverly Jean Harmening Lowe; and grand-daughter, Audrey Nicole Harmening. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church.
