Donald E. Koontz , 72, of East Moline, IL, passed away Friday October 25, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 30th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to services Wednesday. Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the Arc of the Quad Cities area.

Donald was born April 17, 1952, in Moline, Illinois, the son of Laurence and Norma (Anderson) Koontz. He graduated from United Township High School, Class of 1970, then received his Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, IL.

He began his career as an internal auditor with the Target Corporation based in Minneapolis, MN. He left Target to open his own business, Woodbury Liquor Store, in Woodbury, MN. He retired in 2012.

Don was an avid car enthusiast, especially enjoying annual trips to Road America, Elkhart Lake, WI with his friends. He was an accomplished gardener and fisherman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, Norma, of East Moline, IL; sisters, Sharon (Thomas) McKean, Moline, IL, and Cathy Pastorek, East Moline, IL; and nephews, Michael McKean, Eric McKean, and Andrew Pastorek.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Laurence; sister, Christy Koontz; and brother-in-law, Joseph Pastorek.
