Funeral services for Donald D. Mawson. 76 of East Moline, IL, will be noon Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Friday at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30PM. Mr. Mawson died Monday, March 15, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to the family. Don was born January 19, 1934 in Calcutta, India, the son of William and Virginia Dean Mawson. He married Darla Sudderth. He later married Irene Garcia July 12, 1969 in East Moline. He had served in the US Naval Reserve. He was a graduate of Hardin-Simmons University and McMurry University. He later received a masters degree from the University of Illinois, and had worked as a historian for the Rock Island Arsenal. He had worked for the the former Rock Island Lines until they closed. He had been a substitute teacher here in the Quad Cites and in Texas, and lastly he had worked for various security firms in the Quad Cities. Don was a talented leather tooler. He had been involved with the In Touch program. Survivors include his wife, Irene Mawson of East Moline; daughter, Beverly Joosten of Flagstaff, AZ; sons and daughters-in-law, Alan Mawson of Abilene, TX, Drew and Adriene Mawson of Abilene, TX, Jim and Lisa Mawson of Lake Forest, CA; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann and Jack Redman of Huntington Beach, CA, Lois and Jim Cole of TX; special caretaker, Kim Carter of East Moline. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, William "Wil" Mawson, sisters, Marian Grace and Jewel.
