Funeral services for Donald J. Shofner, 88, East Moline, are 11 AM Friday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct military honors. Visitation is 4-7PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Don died Monday, July 25, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born October 14, 1922 in Bemidji, MN, the son of Ervin and Vinnie (Kennedy) Shofner. Don received the Purple Heart while serving in the Infantry of the US Army during WWII. He married Geraldine Richardson on May 14, 1949 in Cass Lake, MN. She died April 7, 1995. Don retired from the former International Harvester Farmall, Rock Island. He enjoyed walking and riding his bicycle. Survivors include his children; Frances Bauer, Moline and Ronald Shofner, East Moline, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and sisters; Donna Mae Bratlien, Phyllis Jones, both of Bemidji and Jeanne Derby, Bagley, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geraldine and brothers Keith and Russell
