Donald D. Vermeire, 85, East Moline, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at the VA Hospital in Iowa City after a brief battle with cancer. A memorial gathering will be from 2-3 PM Thursday at Park Vista, 1455 20th Avenue, East Moline in the Pub Room. Private burial and military honors will be in Rock Island National Cemetery.

Don was born on April 20, 1932 in East Moline, the son of Edmond and Stephanie (DeVoss) Vermeire. He was a substance abuse counselor for 37 years, and helped to grow the 553 program into what is know known as Riverside at Unity Point Trinity, Rock Island. Don married Linda Foote on April 17, 1974 in Rock Island. He served as a jet mechanic for the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Don loved fishing and hunting and had recently taken an honor flight. He was sober for the past 45 years and always said that was a good start.

Survivors include his wife Linda, children, Pamela Northcutt, Colona, Timothy Vermeire, Minneapolis, MN, John D Allen, Atlanta, GA, Julie A Abdel-Fattah, Madison, WI and James T. Allen, Coal Valley, 7 grandchildren and a great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 siblings.
