Dora "Darlene" Walker, 92, of Moline, IL, passed away, Sunday, August 6, 2017, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, IL. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 am Thursday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd, East Moline, followed by a graveside service at Rock Island National Cemetery. Darlene was born November 30, 1924, in Edgewood, Iowa, to John and Clara Belle Moser Derr. In her senior year of high school, she quit school and went to Des Moines to welding school. She then took a job welding tailpipes on bombers during WWII. She married Kenneth C. Rieger in 1946. They were blessed with three children. During these years, they took many vacations by car all over the United States. They later divorced and Darlene married David Walker in 1967. During her later years, together they spent many winters enjoying the Florida sun. Darlene loved attending her grandsons' athletic events. Her favorite past time in her final years was playing bingo with her son, Ken and thrift shopping with her daughter and granddaughter. Her motto was "I just want to have fun." Darlene is survived by her three children: Kenneth " Butch" Rieger, Suzanne (David) Wayne, and Ronald (Lisa) Rieger; grandchildren Jason Rieger, Eric (Sara) Rieger, Brent (Julissa) Rieger, Wendy (James) Bond, Jeremy (Mendy) Rieger, Adam Rieger and Ashley Rieger. In addition, she was blessed with numerous great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Walker, brothers, Calvin and Don Derr, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Janette Rieger. The family would like to thank the staff at Illini Restorative Care Center for their excellent care and compassion. Memorials may be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association.
