Doris J. Smith, 89, East Moline, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at her home, with her family at her side. Funeral services are 10 AM Tuesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 4-7PM Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to East Moline Christian School. Doris Allison was born on May 5, 1927 in Moline, the daughter of Walter and Ellanora (Ryan) Allison. She married Wallace Lee Smith on May 1st, 1948 at Bethel Baptist Church in Port Byron. He died April 13, 2001. Doris retired from Group Claims at Deere & Co in 1984. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, and she and her husband were active in their Church, holding various positions. She graduated from Port Byron High School, Class of '45, where they formed "Our Old Gang", a group of High School chums, who still meet to this day. Doris was a loving grandmother who enjoyed nothing more than to be with her 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters; Rebecca (Paul) Wilcox, Land O Lakes, FL and Sandra (Michael) Chilla, East Moline, grandchildren; Adam Wilcox, Sarah (Christian) Lewis, Rachel (Mitchell) Remour, Jonathan Chilla, and Alexis Chilla and 3 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James and Roger and an infant brother.
