Funeral services for Dorothy M. Dokas, 86, East Moline, are 10 AM Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 2-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Dorothy died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Dorothy Summitt was born April 13, 1924 in Ottumwa, IA, the daughter of Leonard and Bernice (Lowe) Summitt. She married John Dokas on May 22, 1944 in Ottumwa. Dorothy was a master teacher of ceramics and porcelain. She had worked at the former Ceramics by Joy in Moline and owned her own shop where she taught the art of porcelain dolls. Dorothy had traveled from coast to coast to hone her skills in doll making. Mrs. Dokas had also worked for Hampton Township Tax Office. She was a strong democrat and had worked on the John F. Kennedy campaign. Survivors include her husband of 66 years, John, daughter and son-in-law Marsha and Charles Durden of Marietta, GA, son and daughter-in-law James and LuAnn Dokas, Silvis and grandchildren(spouses); Clara (Timothy) Hemphill, Rebecca (Jeremy) Barr, Christa Dokas and Elizabeth Dokas.
