Obituary

Dorothy C. Dowsett, 95, passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 3 at 10AM at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Visitation will be Sunday, April 2 from 2-5PM at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 1:30PM. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum, East Moline. In lieu of flowers and statuary, memorials may be made to St. Anne Church, East Moline or Alleman High School, Rock Island. The former Dorothy Cornelius was born July 26, 1921 in Moline, the daughter of Frank and Regina (Tanghe) Cornelius. Dorothy graduated from St. Mary's grade school, East Moline and United Township High School, East Moline, in 1939 where she served as editor of the school newspaper, the East Moline Key. She was employed in the Production Department office at John Deere Harvester. On May 9, 1942, she married William Dowsett Jr. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, East Moline. Dorothy and Bill celebrated 65 years of married life. Until his death in 2008, they spent their winters in Florida and enjoyed traveling overseas, including Europe, Asia, South America and Australia. Dorothy thoroughly enjoyed golfing and taught all of her children the game. She and her husband were members of Short Hills country Club for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Anne's for 75 years and had been a member of the Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion for over 50 years. Dorothy was an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge groups. She was a member of St. Anne's Y-Namit Club for over 70 years and its only original member at the time of her death. Family was foremost in her life. Survivors include daughters, Connie Dowsett (Bernie Tadda) and Lori Dowsett, both of Moline and sons, Pat (Karen) Dowsett, Moline, Jim (Mary) Dowsett, Rapids City and Chip (Renee) Dowsett, Sartell, MN. There are 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and one brother, Lawrence Cornelius, of Peoria, AZ. Her parents, husband, one daughter, Nancy Tragarz, and one grandson preceded her in death.
