Dorothy J. Smead , 77, of Moline, IL, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024 in Moline.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9th, at First Lutheran Church, Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery, Moline. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 8th, at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family.

Dorothy was born June 7, 1947, Moline, a daughter of John J. Smith Jr. and Lavenia L. (Walton) Smith. She graduated from United Township High School, 1965. She married James E. Smead Jr. on October 25, 1969, at First Lutheran Church, Moline. He preceded her in death on April 25, 2008.

She worked at State Bank of East Moline before becoming a full-time mom and homemaker. Dorothy graduated from UT but became an avid Moline Maroon fan. She was a season ticket holder to basketball and was elated when they won state in 2023. She was a member of First Lutheran Church, Moline, and was a part of WELCA and the Bell choir.

Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything, watching her grandchildren's sporting events, traveling, playing cards and any type of game.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Kelly (John) Carothers, Rock Island; son Mark Smead, Moline; grandchildren, Chelsea (Brandon) Feijo, Tiffin, IA, Alison (Noah) Dohrn, Davenport, and John Carothers, Jr., East Moline; sister-in-law- Pat Reveal, Rapids City, IL, and Marie Weber, Cambridge, IL; and many nieces and nephews, and other family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, James Jr.; infant daughter, Kathy Jo; parents, John and Lavenia; and brothers-in-law, Percy Smead and Kenneth Reveal Sr.
