Funeral services for Douglas G. Garrett, 78, of East Moline, IL, will be 11 AM Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline. Burial will be in Illinois City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Mr. Garrett passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Hope Creek Rehab &Nursing Facility, East Moline.

Doug was born December 18, 1944, in Washington, IA, the son of George and Eva Neff Garrett, the youngest of 6 children. He was raised in Washington where he attended school and graduated from Washington High School. He married Joyce Plotner (She passed away in November of 2000). He later married Roberta (Richards) Biesiada July 5, 2002, in Kewanee, IL. Doug retired from the former St. Lukes Hospital, now Genesis East, Davenport, IA. Later he retired from Augustana College, Rock Island, IL, as a custodian. He enjoyed reading, sports, bowling, fishing, bingo, and spending quality time with his family. He had been a longtime volunteer at In-Touch.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta; step-children, Jeremy Ryan, Patrick Ryan, and Terry Biesiada, Tom (Lisa) Plotner, Jr., Coal Valley, IL, Gary (Anna) Plotner, East Moline, Judy (Bob) Carlson, Coyne Center, IL, Randy Plotner, FL; many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; siblings, Carol (Bob) Brower, Davenport, and Karl (Rose) Garrett Denver, CO; and his four legged friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; brothers, Gene and Keith Garrett; sister, Kay Jorgenson; step-sons, Michael Biesiada, Terry and Todd Plotner.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church/Food Pantry, Hope Creek Activity Fund, or Active Day (formerly In-Touch)
