Rev. Duane Jack, 82, of Silvis, IL, passed away Friday, December 29, 2023, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday, January 5, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church, Moline, IL. Celebrant will be the Most Rev. Louis Tylka Bishop of Peoria. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline, IL. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Christ the King Church with a Scripture Wake Service at 7 PM.
Father Jack was born February 1, 1941, in Moline, the son of Harris and Florence Jack. He attended St. Anne Grade School and Alleman High School. Seminary training for priesthood was at St. Bede, Peru, IL, and Immaculate Conception Seminary in Missouri. He was ordained by Bishop John B. Franz at St. Mary's Cathedral, Peoria, IL, om May 21, 1967.
Fr. Jack served parishes at Visitation, Kewanee, IL; Immaculate Conception, Monmouth, IL; Holy Family, Peoria; Sacred Heart, Moline; St. Maria Goretti, Coal Valley, IL; St. Mary, Kewanee; and St. Patrick, Colona, IL.
He served on Marriage Encounter presenting teams for five years while in Peoria. After moving to Moline, he became the Spiritual Director of the Northwest Area Cursillo in 1976. He formed presenting teams and directed more than 235 weekends of spiritual renewal. As Spiritual Director of Cursillo, Fr. Jack envisioned The Believers Together Center, and with Christ the King and the TEC program, completed the structure which opened in 2002.
While pastor of St. Maria Goretti parish, he directed the construction of a new church and education/social hall, dedicated in 1984. He also served as the Vicar of the Rock Island vicariate and the Kewanee vicariate. His real joy in life was getting to know so many "Spirit-filled" people, among with those who were "searching," all seeking the way to God's Grace and Blessings.
Survivors include his sister, Carol Harrison, Bettendorf, IA; brother, Richard (Marlo) Jack, Ely, IA; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Father is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, C. Richard Harrison.
In lieu of flowers and gifts memorials may be made to any local homeless shelter or to Catholic Relief Services.
