Duane A. Oakland, 94, of East Moline, passed away Sunday February 24, 2019 at Rosewood Care Center in Moline where he was a resident.
Funeral services will be 1:00PM Wednesday February 27, 2019 at Van Hoe Funeral Home, Ltd., in East Moline. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home (11-1PM) where memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association or The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA). Interment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens in East Moline.
Duane was born July 22, 1924 in Moline, a son of Clarence and Clara (Roesner) Oakland. He attended United Township High School and later married Lauricean Pearce Oakland on November 15, 1947 in Long Beach, CA. He worked at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline retiring in 1978. He enjoyed being on the Rock River, boating, fishing, camping, and traveling. He built his own house when he was 23, and was known for being very skilled at working and building things, especially model airplanes. He was a member of the UAW Union in East Moline.
Duane is survived by his wife, Lauricean; 3 children: Sharon (Rev. Kirk) Scott of Naperville, Karen (Paul Buhrke III) Oakland of Tucson, AZ, and Gary (Marge) Oakland of rural Port Byron; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister: Ardis Welborn and a nephew: Jim Welborn.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rosewood Care Center and the Compassus Hospice staff for their excellent care.
