VanWinkle
March 6, 1938 – February 9, 2026
Duane A. VanWinkle, 87, of Silvis, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026, at his residence.
Funeral service will be 9:30 am on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Faith Walk World Outreach Center, Silvis. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at the church. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities or to the American Heart Association. Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, is assisting the family with services.
Duane was born on March 6, 1938, the son of Orville and Helen (McKinzie) VanWinkle. Duane was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He married Nina Sterner on December 31, 1987, in Indiana, she preceded him in passing in 2020. He retired as a painter for Farmall. Duane was an avid Euchre player and AA sponsor for over 48 years, where he helped and saved a lot of friends. He was an active member of Faith Walk World Outreach Center and The Oasis, where he participated in every ministry he could. Duane enjoyed going eagle watching, fishing, dancing, bowling, playing baseball, and spending time on Credit Island in Davenport. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all of his animals.
Duane is survived by his children, Duane “Wayne” VanWinkle Jr., Marilyn (Cindy) Freeman, Ricky VanWinkle, Debbie McLain, LeRoy Forbes Jr., Mindy (Eddie) Curry, Candi (Tom) Ryckeghem, Terry (Jodi) Van Winkle, Jimmy (KayLee) VanWinkle, Todd (Michelle) Forbes, and Alissa (Wade) Hansen; 26 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 21 great-greatgrandchildren; sisters-in-law, Sandra and Marg VanWinkle; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; siblings, Louise Salek, Howard VanWinkle, and Robert VanWinkle; and sons-in-laws, Ron McLain and Mike Rose.
