Edith M. Matthews Our loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Edith M. Matthews, 86, of Geneseo, IL, formerly of Ridgewood Towers, East Moline, IL was called home to our Lord on Thursday, Jan 28, 2010, with her family by her side, after a long battle with heart disease. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, IL. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Matthews passed away Thursday at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, IL. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Edith Barker was born May 8, 1923 in East Peoria, IL, the daughter of Theodore and Florence Swinford Barker. She married Henry Cecil Matthews January 13, 1950 in Pekin, IL. He passed away in 1970. Edith was a homemaker for many years. She took much pride in caring for her husband and children. She later spent several years as nurse's aid at Moline Public Hospital. Edith later worked at the Maid-Rite in Colona. She enjoyed volunteering at Trinity and Illini Hospitals. Edith loved spending time with her family. She loved greatly and was greatly loved. Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Mary and Ron Goffe of Geneseo, Vicki Matthews of Rock Island, IL; sons and daughter-in-law, Rick and Barbara Matthews of Warner Robins, GA, Tom Harper of Morton, IL; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. The family would like to thank all of her dear longtime friends Katherine Engels, Don and Sue Able, and a host of others.
