Funeral services for Edward P. Belan, 76, East Moline, are 10 AM Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, East Moline. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church. Ed died Monday, June 23, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Edward was born September 12, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Adam and Eva (Ftak) Belan. He was a US Army Veteran. He received his bachelors from Elmhurst College and his masters from Northern Illinois University. Ed married Judith Schadt on June 7, 1969 at St. John's Lutheran Church, where he and his wife have been very active members. He taught English at United Township High School from 1963 until 1991. He served as department chair for many years at the school. Ed was a member of the Illinois Education Association, the National Education Association, the Illinois Retired Teachers and had held various offices in the local Black Hawk Unit. He enjoyed reading, traveling and was a member of the Black Hawk Postcard Club. Spending time with his grandson Tyler was his current favorite hobby. Survivors include his wife Judy, son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Holly Belan, Moline, grandson Tyler, step granddaughter Kaley, and sisters and brother-in-law Evelyn Ortman of Barrington, IL and Pauline and Leonard Neumann, Lawrenceville, PA.
