Funeral services for Edward E. Brouwers, 79, East Moline, are 1PM Wednesday at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 11AM until 12:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline, where he was a member. Edward died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Ed was born March 30, 1932 in Primrose, NE, the son of Lawrence and Helen (Fox) Brouwers. He married Anna Rutsaert on May 28, 1969. She died October 27, 2004. Mr. Brouwers retired from the Rock Island Arsenal after 20 years working on Roads and Grounds. He enjoyed horse racing, playing cards and fishing. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. While serving in Korea he received a Korean Service Medal with 1 Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the East Moline American Legion Post 227 and of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his children and spouses: Marianne Fuessel of Rock Island, IL, Theresa and James Schmitz of LaSalle, IL; Mike Rutsaert of East Moline, IL, and James and Angelica Rutsaert of East Moline, IL; granddaughters, Barb Krahl, Kelly Carey, Stacy Schmitz, Jennifer Noles, Cari, Audrianna and Nicole Rutsaert; great-grandchildren: Chelsey, Stephanie, Parker, Makenzei and Grace, and sisters; Laura Pitman, MN, Violet Corder, IA, Ethel Kness, Ark., and Loraine Malone, IA. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, his parents, a sister Rose and a brother Jack
