Obituary

Edward L. Freebern, 92, of East Moline, IL, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, at the Summit, Bettendorf, IA. Graveside services will be 1 PM Tuesday February 13, 2024, at the Rock Island National Cemetery, anyone wishing to attend should be at the Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline, by 12:30PM.

Ed was born August 12, 1931, in Silvis, IL, the son of Edward J. and Essie Culley Freebern. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Nancy Hoexter April 14, 1956, in Rock Island. He had worked for the Rock Island Line in his earlier years. He later worked for Product Development at John Deere, retiring in 1992, after 26 years of service. He was a member of the East Moline American Legion Post 227, where he proudly served in the Honor Guard. He most recently had participated in an Honor Flight. He was a Chicago Bears fan.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; sons, Kevin (Wendy) Port Byron, IL, Keith (Kathleen) Freebern, AZ, and Craig (Jacque) Freebern, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Kyle Freebern, Bettendorf, Jenna (Bradley) Johnson, Corralville, IA, and Kayla Freebern, Winter Garden, FL; and sister, Jane (Mike) Bare, Erie, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Lloyd.

Memorials may be made to the Silvis United Methodist Church or the East Moline American Legion Honor Guard.
