Funeral services for Edward C. Jacobs, 90, of East Moline, IL will be 10:00AM Saturday at the Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery, Moline, IL. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00PM Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Jacobs died Saturday, June 14, 2014, at his home. Memorials may be made to the Children's Therapy Center. Ed was born October 7, 1923, in Sheffield, IL, the son of Clarence and Ethel Arndt Jacobs. He served during WWII. He married Frances Massa August 2, 1947, in East Moline. He worked as a deckhand on the Hennepin Canal. He then worked for JI Case and Engelheart. Ed later retired from Caterpillar Tractor and Co., Mount Joy, IA, in 1985, after 30 years of service. Ed lived the life of "Huckleberry Finn" through the 20's and 30's. He loved camping outdoors and enjoyed teaching his hunting and fishing skills to anyone willing to share his enthusiasm. He had been president of the Rock Island Conservation Club, a member of the Illiniwek Archery Club, Isaac Walton League, Erie Boat Club and Oak Hill Gun Club. He and his wife were mall walkers for many years. He had been a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Frances Jacobs, East Moline; his son, William (Marcia) Jacobs, Coal Valley, IL; grandchildren, Adam (Stephanie) Jacobs, Nathan Jacobs and Ian Jacobs; great grandchildren, Garrett and Charles Jacobs; and sister-in-law, Carol Jacobs, Duluth, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Lawrence Jacobs. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.vanhoe.com.
