Edward A Van Wiel, 99, Silvis, passed away on December 24, 2014 at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services are 10 AM Saturday January 3, 2015 at St. Anne Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. Visitation is 1 hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Anne Church, where he was a member. Ed was born on July 27, 1915 in Seattle, WA, the son of Emil and Celina Van Wiel. He married Virginia DeMeyer on May 6, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline. She died February 22, 2007. Mr. Van Wiel worked as an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance. After retirement he worked as a courier at Black Hawk College, Moline. He enjoyed making miniature trains and ships from aluminum pop cans. Survivors include his children, Fr. John Van Wiel, Arlington Heights, IL and Marjorie Dennison, Santa Clarita, CA, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, sons, Larry and Michael and his sister Helen.
